Since cats and dogs are common pets and generally take the most care, we have some tips to help you take care of your furry friends here in Fort Worth, TX.
Tips for Dog Owners
It’s important to teach your dog simple commands when they’re young. Teaching them these commands can prevent your pet (or you) from being put into a dangerous situation. Some of these simple commands can include sit, lay down, stay, drop, or come. Using treats as rewards will make this a positive experience as well. Be patient and consistent while training — it can be a long process, but well worth your time. Click on the link above to learn some helpful tips on how to train your dog to do simple commands.
We have a few local dog parks that are great to let your dog enjoy some unleashed fun. Try out Fort Woof Dog Park. It’s about a 12-minute drive from Courtyards on Glenview. You can also try out Tipps Canine Hollow Dog Park that’s about a 13-minute drive away. Dog parks are a great way to help your dog socialize as well as training them in an open area.
Tips for Cat Owners
Finding the right litter box for your cat is more important than you might think. Cats can be picky about what litter boxes they’ll use. It can get more tricky if you have more than one cat. If you have two cats, you’ll want to have at least two litter boxes. Finding the right cat litter that prevents odors and clumps together can also make your life a lot easier. You can find a variety of litter boxes and cat litter at your local Fort Worth, TX pet store or supermarket.
Cats love to scratch and it’s important for them to do so. Cats need their claws to stay agile, so help them find an alternative place to scratch. Give them a scratching post or two in different places in the house. You can also offer different materials that your cat likes so they have options. If they’re scratching somewhere you don’t want them to, put some type of menthol rub on the surface. This will deter them from scratching there. To encourage scratching in a designated area use catnip.
